Naturally I started were any well planned build starts, looking at lots of tasty bits online and trying to decide what rear
lights would look good and other items of such critical nature.
23rd May '08 - I have been up to Stingray to see the pile of bits now in my name. The aluminium panelling will be done
by Stingray, this will give me some time to get the garage ready and truth be told drilling and and fitting hundreds of rivets
is not my idea of fun. The plan is to pick the kit up towards the end of June, did I mention cloakroom and utility extension
I have to finish before being allowed to start on the car? I have taken quite a few pictures of a finished R1 engined car
which should hopefully help the planning/construction of mine.
24th June '08 - Picked up the drive shafts, front hubs and carriers off an XR2 last Friday, £60. The chap also had a stack
of spare wheels so I picked up a set of 13x6j rims for another £40, I aim to get something better for the finished car but
will certainly do to get it rolling. Won a Quaife ATB diff on eBay tonight, £160 and hopefully working. Thinking of picking
up a Ford viscous LSD if I can get one cheap enough and compare how they feel, though that is probably getting ahead of myself.
Stingray are going to start panelling the chassis next week and the garage is still not ready!
7th December '08. After far too long I have finally picked up the kit. In the mean time I have aquired a
Quafe ATB at a good price from eBay and bought a set of Team Dynamics 1.2 wheels while they were on offer. I also started
a welding course in September and am hoping to put my skills to the test be building my own exhaust system for the car.
A work mate very kindly picked up the kit with me, saved me a bit of cash on hiring a van. There were no problems
getting it the 170 miles or so home, though Ash thought we were bound to get pulled by the police at some point. It
did attract a certain amount of attention from people we passed, but not the police.
