I was originally looking for a replacement for my Impreza that was more involving and yet still everyday usable. I had a
look at the MK3 MR2 but found could not comfortably heal and toe because my knee just ended up wedged behind the steering
wheel. I had the same problem with the MX5, which was annoying because I had my eye on a supercharged mkII 1.8i sport up
for sale locally.
Of course what I really wanted was an Elise and my sensible hat just made me look at the Japanese offerings first. So
did I fit, you bet I did, unfortunately my wife's opinion of getting in and out of one...
No problem a couple of snips with the scissors and the hat knew who was boss, I would get an Elise for me and keep the
Impreza for commuting. Settled then? Well no because I just happened to see a Caterham on eBay, it was only a hire but well,
why not? So 420 miles later and the sensible hat was running scared but still trying, a Caterham was just going to be too
much money so an Elise was going to be a sensible choice. All would have been well had Stingray motorsport not put an unstarted
R1ot kit on eBay, the sensible hat made a surprisingly good BBQ lighter.
If I was going to buy a car as a toy why compromise, who needs a roof it just adds weight and skin is waterproof anyway.
The R1ot was not new to me, I had seen the press when it came out and I did get in one at Total Kitcar at Brands Hatch last
year so while the decision was somewhat spur of the moment it was an informed one.
Remember the wife I mentioned? Well we are still married you will be pleased to hear, providing I finish the extension before
starting work on the car!
